Karino's Fire is by the Elite Imported German Trakehner Stallion Carino *E*. Among his accomplishments, Carino *E* has been awarded Elite status (*E*) by the American Trakehner Asscoiation, and in Canada has earned the right to be awarded Canadian Sport Horse Association Stallion of the Year, as well as 2000 Caroline Sifton Award. Carino *E* was brought to the North American continent to serve as a breeding stallion and foundation line for a Trakehner Stud, and he has certainly accomplished this goal and established his line, here in North America. Carino *E* hails from the historical Irrlehrer and Oxyd bloodline. His grandsire, Intermezzo, earned his fame as DLG Champion, and logo head of Trakehner Hefte and earned his place in history as sire of outstanding mares that have produced some of Germany's very best stallions and athletic horses. Irrlehrer line produced, Nurmi, and event horse who went on to win multiple Gold medals in the Olympic Games.

Carino *E* also desends from the great Olympic producing bloodlines of Oxyd. He hailed from the O- Trakehner line, and he was a huge success. Sadly, for the Trakehner breed, Oxyd was used quite extensively in other breeds, leaving behind only 2 approved Trakehner sons in Germany and only four daughters. While his effect has been felt throughout the breeding world, Oxyd's line in Trakehners is precious. Oxyd was long lived, living to 28 in an age where the modern medicines and wormers were unavailable, a testament to the long lived quailities of this bloodline. Oxyd died ironically the year his two sons went on to win Olympic medals in dressage, quite possibly the only time in history that horses that were brothers won Olympic medals, side by side, a testament to their great sire, Oxyd.

He was an imposing black Trakehner stallion who indelibly left his mark on not only the Trakehner breed, though maybe most notably on the Westphanlian and Hannoverian. In 1952, the World felt the effect of Oxyd- as he was the sire of TWO Olympic Medalists Adular and Afrika. Winning Olympic medals, and as a point of interest, Afrika was ridden by Ida Von Nagel, it was the first time women were allowd to compete horseback in the Olympics.

What a day that must have been for Von Nagel! Especially since her family had bred Trakehners.

Oxyd was also the grandsire of World and Olympic Champion, Mariano. Mariano went on to win, win and win. Some of the highlights of his career included winning Team and Individual Gold medals at the '66 World Equestrian Games in Switzerland, and Team Gold, Individual Silver at the 1968 Olympics. Mariano became a foundation sire and valued bloodline in the Westphalian breed.

As greatness often does, Mariano had a full brother, Radetzky. Radetzky became a Legend in breeding. His name is truly synomymous with World Class dressage. His ripple effect is felt through out the breeds of Oldenburg, Hannoverian, Westphanlian and much more. You may recognize some names that hail from his line, Rubinstein, Romulus and the great modern Olympic Gold Medal Champion, Rembrant.

Where there was influence from these lines, they were great, significant accomplishments. We hope our young stallion can keep the family tradition going.

The sire, Carino *E*, is now retired from breeding, and at the age of 30 is still completely sound and healthy, still being rode and had himself been a breeding stallion until AGE 27!! Retired from stud in 2003, maintaining his high fertility. This in itself is a major feat, as is his good health and productivity into his 30th year. Simply amazing. Especially if you are into dressage and distance riding, sports with normally horses being productive into later years than other sports, you can see how exciting it is to have a horse with such longevity. His entire bloodline is long lived and highly fertile, Carino *E* himself is the son of mare that had her last foal at age 24, she remained very fertile and healthy, long past when many horses even live, she was still healthy and productive.

Carino *E* has been awarded the Canadian Sporthorse of the Year title (2000), he was imported to Canada in 1987 by Rappenhof Trakehner Stud. Carino *E* has graced the covers of Canadian and USA magazines, such as Horse & Country, The Canadian Trakehner, Horse Sport and Hippique. Before he was Imported to Canada, Carino*E* had sired of over 30 winners in Dressage and Jumping in Germany, this included mares that have won Champion & Premium status. Since his arrival in North America, Carino *E* has produced more than 80 offspring that have gone on into the competition world and have won in Dressage, Endurance, Driving, Hunter under saddle, Competitive Trail, Hunter and Jumper. To my knowledge, Karino's Fire is the only breeding stallion by Carino *E* that is out of an Arabian mare.
